Dakin Humane Society’s Pet Food Aid program was created more than 15 years ago to ensure that people have a place to turn when their dogs and cats need food.

This Program offers dog and cat food, available to people who are struggling to feed their beloved pets. Dakin’s mission is to keep people and pets together, and our Pet Food Aid Program is here for you.

If you are in need of food for your dogs or cats, please do the following:

  1. Visit Dakin at 171 Union Street in Springfield Tuesday through Saturday between 12:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. to collect your pet food. Wait times vary and your desired food type may not be available.
  2. When you enter Dakin’s parking lot, follow the posted instructions. Bring a cell phone with you, as you will need to call the phone number posted on our fence for assistance. The food will be delivered to your car by Dakin staff members.

Pet Food is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and is available while supplies last. The amount of food you receive should feed your pet for a month.

How You Can Help

Much of the food distributed through Dakin's Pet Food Aid program has been graciously donated by members of our community. We warmly welcome donations of unopened dry cat and dog food.

Donations are accepted daily via contactless drop-off outside our Springfield Animal Resource Center at 171 Union Street.

Monetary gifts support this program by helping us purchase food for distribution. Check the "Pet Food Aid Fund" box when making your gift online.

Why We Need Pet Food Aid Programs

  • Food stamps and other forms of assistance don’t allow for the purchase of pet food, and people will often sacrifice their own food for their pets
  • Many clients need the food on a short-term basis, which helps keep the program sustainable
  • Pet Food Aid programs serve as a critical resource during times of disaster or crisis
  • We are able to ensure the availability of both cat and dog food for both types of pets
